COVID-19 Operations Update

Dear clients and colleagues,

Over the past several weeks, we have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation and putting in place the recommended precautions by the CDC, WHO, and government officials to protect the health of our employees, their families, our clients and colleagues, and our communities.

With the stay-at-home order from Ohio Governor Mike Dewine set to go into effect tonight, we wanted to provide an update on our operations plans for the coming weeks. R.E. Warner is considered an essential business as determined by the Department of Homeland Security (// We support public utilities and other clients related to critical infrastructure, and as such we are committed to continuing to provide high-quality professional services and meet scheduled deadlines during this time.

We will continue to follow the below protocols.

Our office space will remain open and while at least one person will be here during normal business hours, we are encouraging staff to work remotely as is feasible.
Non-employees are restricted from entering our office space; Outside vendors are being asked to reschedule appointments for a later time.
All non-essential travel has been discontinued.
We are continuing communication through email, telephone, Microsoft Teams and conference calls.

R.E. Warner Announces Election of New Directors to the Board; New COO

The R.E. Warner Board of Directors is pleased to announce the election of three staff members as new Directors to the Board. They are:

Matthew R. Benovic, PE, SE, Senior Project Manager
David G. Ferencik, PE, Manager, Operations and Civil/Structural
Jennifer R. Kalin, RA, NCARB, Senior Project Manager and Manager, Architecture

In conjunction, the Board also announces its Officer assignments:

CEO & President: Theodore A. Beltavski, PE
Chief Operating Officer: Francis H. Johnson, Jr., PE
Secretary and Health & Safety Officer: Matthew S. Barratt, PE
Treasurer: Matthew R. Benovic, PE, SE
Quality Officer: David G. Ferencik, PE
EEO Compliance Officer: Jennifer R. Kalin, RA, NCARB

Most notable is the creation of the Chief Operating Officer role, which has been established to continue to improve the firm’s operational effectiveness. Having previously served as Vice President of Project Management, Frank Johnson has been appointed to this position. As COO, he will lead technical operations including identifying and implementing procedures and technology to improve project delivery and ensure client satisfaction.

In addition to the above changes, the Board announces the voluntary departures of Business Development Manager Brett A. Neff and Accounting Manager Deborah I. Joppeck from the Board. The Board thanks them both for their dutiful guidance during their tenure as Directors.

Dave Brunner Completes 30-Hour OSHA Training

We are pleased to recognize Senior Mechanical Designer/Safety Coordinator Dave Brunner for completing OSHA’s 30-Hour General Industry Safety Training. This voluntary program provides workers with training on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces in general industry.

Specific topics covered include:

Walking and Working Surfaces, including Fall Protection
Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection

Congratulations to Gordon Mellen – 40 Years at R.E. Warner!

We are pleased to recognize Gordon (“Gordie”) Mellen for his 40-year anniversary with R.E. Warner. Gordie joined the firm on October 16, 1978.

Gordie is highly proficient in the structural design of complex steel, automotive and chemical production facilities.  He has been an integral member of the team for many of the the firm’s large industrial projects, including the award-winning Ameristeel Melt Shop Modernization, the Ross Air Pollution Control Upgrade, RTI’s new Titanium Plate Rolling & Finishing and Titanium Forging & Grinding Facilities, TimkenSteel’s In-Line Forge Press & Soaking Pit Equipment Installation, ASHTA Chemicals’ HCL Production Upgrades, and CMC’s new Micro Mill, to name a few. He also routinely works on automotive plant projects for Ford and Honda, and most recently the Leadec Merecedes Plant Monorail Upgrade.

“Gordie’s exceptional attention to detail and technical capabilities make him an asset to our department. He is a dedicated, hard worker and it’s pleasure to have him as part of the structural engineering team,” said Dave Ferencik, Structural Department Manager.
