Overview
The
SURVEY DEPARTMENT MANAGER is responsible for the administrative functions of the Survey Department including the supervision of all personnel and the quality of their work. This individual must be willing to step into the role of responsible charge of surveying work for R.E. Warner and sign as the firm’s surveyor of record.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plans, coordinates, and directs all surveying projects undertaken by the department, including organizing, assigning, and supervising staff, and directing integration of technical activities.
- Develops or reviews scope, tasks, hours, and schedule on project proposals to assure they are accurate for review by company officers and the client.
- Assures department projects are following the company’s quality standards; that the proper reviews are being completed; and scope, budget and schedule are being met. Any quality deviations are reported promptly, and necessary corrective actions initiated.
- Assures projects assigned to group meet industry standards and codes, government regulations, and is safe.
- Assures group members have had appropriate safety training before attending a client site, that necessary safety equipment is provided and working, and that the proper safety attitude and awareness is developed in the group.
- Assures all projects in department are technically correct and safe by performing appropriate quality checks and reviews or delegates to a senior colleague.
- Assures department technical skills, safety performance, and quality compliance improves by conducting or delegating to another senior colleague, the training and mentoring of all department staff.
- Assures department technical resources are improved so efficiency and/or accuracy of project work remains competitive.
- With approval from company officers, develops, and controls department budget for the training, resource improvement, and other activities of the department.
- Supports the department members to assure all barriers and obstacles that inhibit their efficient work process are eliminated.
- Supports company culture by training group colleagues and promoting a healthy, enthusiastic, creative, and positive work environment that helps others perform at their highest level.
- Provides performance feedback to group colleagues by conducting appropriate appraisals, making sure everyone knows what is expected, assigning challenging projects, resolving personnel issues, and providing frequent feedback.
- Conducts salary reviews and recommends salary adjustments and promotion recommendations to the Director of Operations.
- Hires and/or dismisses department personnel with the approval of the Director of Operations.
- Supports Market Directors as needed to develop new business and/or bring in work from existing clients. Support includes making presentations, calling, and meeting perspective clients, demonstrating technical capabilities, etc.
- Evaluates client projects, technical problems, or concepts to determine if it is an issue the company has the technical skills to solve, develop and optimize the design and convince the client to let R.E. Warner propose the project if it is not already a project.
- Evaluates business/market opportunities, staffing availability, and current resource loading. Works with Officers, PMs, other DMs, and key staff to help set strategic direction, reduce costs, increase profitability, and shareholder value.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Surveying or other related degree required.
- Ohio PS License required.
- 10+ years of previous related experience, 4+ years of which must be responsible, professional, supervisory, and administrative experience.
- Proficiency with Trimble GPS, Trimble Robotic Total Station (S6/S7), Trimble (TSC7) and Trimble (TSC3) / Ranger Data Collectors.
- Fully proficient in the use of computer for design and understand CAD operations.
- ​Valid Drivers’ License.
