Overview

The Senior Substation Engineer (R&C) serves as a technical specialist but may also be asked to participate in some management and marketing responsibilities. Acts as a senior engineer of the department. Responsible for technical development in the electrical engineering discipline.

Schedule: Remote

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate and compliant designs, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, Equipment Lists, etc. for high voltage substations. The ability to look up, understand, assist, and order the appropriate materials needed for each design.
  • Supports project schedules to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • Mentors junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback.
  • Serves as the main technical point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and presenting solutions.
  • Recommends and implements process improvements to enhance design efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stays current with industry advancements, standards, and technologies.
  • Delivers high-quality designs that meet client expectations and industry standards.
  • Conducts training sessions and share best practices.
  • Fosters a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Works closely with other disciplines (substation physical, civil/structural) and external stakeholders (clients, utilities).
  • Reviews and approves drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Verifies adherence to client, utility, and regulatory standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC).
  • Addresses complex technical challenges, such as optimizing schemes or troubleshooting design issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with specialization in the electrical discipline required.
  • 8+ years of previous consulting or substation engineering experience required.
