Overview
The successful candidate will have 8 years minimum related structural design experience. The Senior Structural Designer performs non-routine assignments including responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project or relatively limited scope or portion of a large and more diverse project. Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs or layouts. Reviews and analyzes a variety of design data to determine requirements to meet objectives. May calculate design data. Prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts/materials lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May supervise other designers.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine and complex assignments involving planning and conducting design and layout of non-complex projects or portion of a complex project.
- Performs field measurements independently.
- Selects and implements designs, techniques, layouts and plans.
- Reviews and analyzes designs to determine layout requirements.
- May assist lead engineer in calculating design data.
- Learns and applies techniques for documenting project scope.
- Prepares technical portion of specifications/materials lists, etc.
- Assists in preparing cost estimates and reports.
- May serve as discipline lead and direct work of other designers/drafters.
- May serve as Project Leader on routine, single-discipline projects.
- Promotes use of and participates in development of company design and production standards.
- Reviews drawings and documents to ensure compliance with the company’s design and production standards.
- Assists in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
- Researches routine code issues.
- Keeps current on “state of the art” in their design discipline through review of periodicals and continuing education.
- Maintains neat and organized work area and project files which allows efficient access to project information required by other team members.
- Assists with whatever duties are required to deliver a quality project on schedule and within budget.
Requirements
- Technical or Associates Degree in structural design from an accredited technical institution or college.
- Must have knowledge of applicable codes.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit software operation obtained from related experience or education.
- Proficient in the PC / windows environment with experience in e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a team player with co-workers, support staff, supervisors, other agencies and the clientele.
- Possess integrity, sense of responsibility, and independent judgement.
- Ability to delegate tasks and duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Possess excellent analytical skills.
