R.E. Warner & Associates, Inc. prepared plans and specifications for construction of a new steel scrap recycling facility including site design, architectural, structural and foundations, plumbing and HVAC and electrical engineering.

The outdoor scrap preparation area will handle ferrous metals such as structural steel and iron materials. Mobile equipment will be utilized to handle and cut up the metal into smaller sizes according to owner’s specifications. This metal will eventually be shipped to the owner’s melt shop facilities.

The indoor recycling operation will be housed in a 12,000 s.f. building which will handle non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum, titanium, etc. This building will be connected to an administration office that will contain offices, locker rooms and other rooms necessary for the operation of the recycling facility.

Site-civil engineering and preparation of an economical design for this 25 acre site was complex due to the terrain, five existing wetlands, 20-foot change in grade over the site, and unsuitable soil conditions. Sitework included clearing and demolition; pre-loading with several feet of soil and wick drains to consolidate the center of the site; site grading, drainage, and paving for the site facilities and new access roads; new storm sewer and 36” culvert, sanitary sewer system and pump station; two stormwater detention ponds and pollution prevention plans; natural gas and electrical services; environmental permitting, and security fencing.
