R.E. Warner Structural Engineers Present at November SEAoO Cleveland Section Meeting

Structural/Architectural Department Manager Dave Ferencik, PE and Senior Project Manager and Structural Engineer Matt Benovic, PE, SE, LEED AP presented Case Studies in Ethics at the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio (SEAoO) Cleveland Section November meeting last week. They presented alongside Project Manager and Structural Engineer Tim Gilbert, PE, SE, SECB of TimkenSteel.

Dave, Matt and Tim, all SEAoO members, reviewed three recent adjudicated cases from the NSPE Board of Ethical Review. They presented the facts of each case, and then engaged in discussion with the audience before providing details on how each was resolved.

While some issues are simple enough to require little thought, others seem to place familial, professional, and/or business obligations into conflict, requiring complex analysis to determine the best course of action. These three case studies provided meeting attendees the opportunity to learn from real-world examples of situations with complicated ethical concerns.

Prior to Dave, Matt and Tim’s presentation, meeting attendees heard from THP Limited’s Shayne Manning, PE, SE, LEED AP who reviewed major changes to the structural portions of the 2017 Ohio Building Code.
